Are you still getting orders for obsolete materials? You can put a stop to it!
Method 1
Batch Update Items lets you withdraw many non-circulating items at once. So long as there are no Available items, KLAS can't automatically assign them!
In KLAS, open the Catalog Module.
Use the Tools menu to open Batch Update Items.
Click the Define Query button.
Set your specifications for which Items to withdraw.
Suggested Settings:
Medium: Braille, Large Print
Cir Status: Available
Cir Date: 01/01/2009 (to find titles that haven't circulated in the last 10 years--adjust date as needed)
Cir Date Operater: Before Cir Date
Once you've made your selections, click Define Query.
Review the listed items and the count of # Items in Batch. You can remove select items from the batch using the delete button or Ctrl+D (any items you remove will keep their Available status).
If you are satisfied that they can all be withdrawn, set Action to Withdraw.
Post Batch to save the changes.
Method 2
You can query for Titles with an old Publication date.
In KLAS, open the Catalog Module.
Open Query (Ctrl+Q or the Magnifying Glass icon), and enter the following criteria.
Quick Search tab:
Medium | Begins | B (to narrow results to braille, adjust as desired for a different medium)
Advanced Search tab:
BibRec | Title Status | Equals | A
BibRec | Year Published | Is Between | 01/01/0001 | 01/01/2009 (to find titles over ten years old; adjust end date as desired)
Statistics | Copies Available | Does Not Equal | 0
Click "Begin Search."
Review the results.
See if there are any titles that should be exempt (such as Classic Lit)--if so, those should be changed to a different Title Status or have a Subject added that will allow you to exclude them from future searches.
For titles you want to withdraw, go to the Copy tab and use Change Item Status to make any available copies Withdrawn. Then, you can make the Title Status withdrawn as well on the TitleBib tab.
