Hello! As a reminder, corrected MARC records are available for download from the Documents section of the main menu here (or directly at: MARC Records ).

While we recommend that all users load our version of the records, instead of the ones available directly from NLS, this is especially important for libraries using version 7.7!

Our version contains a number of corrections to NLS' sometimes-inconsistent cataloging, but more critically, they are formatted to allow special characters (such as diacritics) to load correctly into KLAS.

We are working with NLS so that their files will handle UTF-8 characters (the character set used in v7.7) correctly from the start, but until that is all worked out, please ONLY load the files available from us! This will keep your catalog module clean and your OPAC looking good B)

If you have any questions about the MARC records, how to load them, or the differences between the NLS-direct records and our corrected versions, please let us know!

(PS: not sure what the different files include? Check this post from last year: Are your records up-to-date? )

For KLAS 7.7, we have been using the MarcXML format instead of the older Marc communications format. There are a couple reasons for this, the two main ones being:
  • It loads faster than the older format.
  • The XML format is easier to validate for UTF-8 compliance.

The potential downside is that, when you go to download the MarcXML files from the MARC Record Corrections page, some browsers will instead open the file in the browser. If this happens, your browser will have an option to save the page. Or to prevent the file from opening and requiring the extra step to save, instead of left-clicking on the download link, right-click and select "Save Link as..."

If you have any other questions or difficulty with the corrected MARC records, please let us know!
