Hello everybody. I have questions about the three items circled in this screen shot (attached) of the profile tab of the Patron Module:

What does "Dir Status" mean (what do the letters stand for) and what is it used for?

What does "Cir Status" mean and what is it used for?

What does "Nightly Debug" mean and what is it used for?

Thanks!

Max,
The dir status refers to direct service from NLS/CMLS for magazines, this insures that the patron gets served magazines from these agencies if they are subscribed to the magazine.

The Cir status refers to circulating service from your library for magazines, this make the patron active to recieve magazines from your library.

Nightly Dedug, shows the nightly service for that patron. It fills the comments log on the profile tab. You do not want to do check that box with out first asking us about the patron and why the patron has not be served. You can contact Keystone staff at or calling us 800-222-9711.

What happens if you leave these items (cir status and dir status) blank?

Some additional information about those statuses.

Both of these are automatically set to Active when you add a subscription to the patron's subscription list. So, for example, if you add a direct mail magazine to the patron's record, say SER-GHK3, the system will set the DirStatus for DB to Active. If you add a subscription to your local large print newsletter, the system will set the CirStatus for Large print to Active.

The DirStatus at that point is informational - it lets you know, when you are looking at the Profile tab, that the patron is getting service directly from NLS in that medium. Maintaining those subscriptions - i.e., stopping/starting is something you do on the Subscriptions tab.

The CirStatus is much more functional. When your library adds an issue to a serial and creates mailing cards/labels to send out, the system looks for subscriptions that are not cancelled and where the CirStatus is set to Active, prior to making any assignments.

In practical terms, you can manage the patron''s service from your library on this Profile tab.
Medium: what format you are managing
Status: Status for serving books in the medium
ServeCode: How often to check whether the patron needs books in the medium
DirStatus: Indicates whether the patron is subscribed to direct mail magazines in this medium
CirStatus: Status for serving magazines in this medium

If you have a patron who wants to put his book service on hold, but still receive his magazines from you, you can update the Status field to Inactive, while leaving the CirStatus at Active. If your patron doesn't want to receive magazines from you, you would need to set that CirStatus to a non-active status.
